Billy & Stu Would Like to Talk
On October plans, a new zine, and other news

With October/Spooky Season fast approaching, I’ve been wondering if I have the stamina for another 31 illustrated essays about horror films. For various reasons, I don’t think this is the year for it. But I might try and do some sort of weekly post. It feels wrong not to do something to mark the Best Month Of The Year. Recently, I’ve been thinking about working my way through some of the classic horror franchises as I rarely watch horror sequels. Maybe I could do a franchise per week? We’ll see.
In the meantime, I’ve spent some time going through my writing from last year, picking out my favourite horror essays, and tidying them all up for print. I’ve collected 11 essays together in a limited risograph-printed run of zines. There are just 100 editions of this A5, 36 page zine. All beautifully printed on 118gsm birch paperstock by Out of the Blueprint here in Edinburgh.

Paid subscribers of this newsletter signed up just to support me and show their appreciation for the newsletter. There’s no paywall or tiers. So, as a small thank you, I’ll be emailing paid subscribers and offering to send them a copy of the zine for free. This will be the case going forward. If I ever make any zines like this in the future, any paid subscribers will be sent a copy gratis.
I’ll be posting copies of the zine out on Oct 8th. If you fancy one, you can pre-order your copy on my online store here.
It will also be available to buy from certain stockists like Gosh! Comics in London and OK Comics in Leeds.
If you’re in Edinburgh, I’ll be attending ECAF on the 23rd November, and TAGS on December 7th. I’ll have any remaining copies of the zine, along with Introduction to Charts, a restock of my I’m a Luddite comic, and some copies of Suzanne. Drop by and say hello!
Bloodsports
One other small thing to keep an eye out for is the new issue of Beneficial Shock (coming out October 14th). The theme of the issue is Fun & Games and I wrote a piece about the long history of cinematic adaptations of The Most Dangerous Game. It’s about class warfare, Eat the Rich cinema, detournement, and recuperation. I illustrated the piece too. Here’s a sneak peek at a couple of spot illustrations:

The issue is full of fascinating articles. All beautifully illustrated. If you’d like to pre-order a copy, you can do so here.
I think that’s it for now! As always, thanks for reading.
